Round Robin for College Football
I heard an interesting comment on ESPN the other day. They were interviewing Graham Harrell from Texas Tech, and trying like crazy to get him to admit that he was disappointed that he wasn’t going to NY for the Heisman ceremony. He would not give it to them.
But that wasn’t the point I wanted to share. You see, Texas Tech lost only once all year, to Oklahoma. They beat Texas and Oklahoma State and a bunch of other teams. They got left out of the discussion for the Big 12 championship which seemed to focus on Texas and Oklahoma only. Oklahoma lost to Texas for their one loss. Oklahoma plays Florida for the national title, and Florida has only one loss, that to Ole Miss. And Ole Miss plays… guess who… Texas Tech in the Cotton Bowl!
So imagine this scenario. Florida beats Oklahoma, leaving Florida with only one loss. Imagine that Texas Tech ramps up the big guns and destroys Ole Miss in the Cotton Bowl, leaving Texas Tech with only one loss. And they beat the only team that beat Florida, who just beat Oklahoma, who had previously beaten … Texas Tech.
It’s another viscious circle, isn’t it?
For the record, I expect (and hope) to see Florida take Oklahoma in the BCS Bowl, but we’ll have to see how that works out.
