iTunes Compass

I’ve had some fun looking for matches in the song data of my iTunes library for particular words. For example, which direction is the most popular?

North: 4 items 13.8 minutes
East: 44 items 29. hours
South: 86 items 6.7 hours
West: 18 items 1.3 hours

Clearly the South is the place to be. What about seasons?

Summer: 34 [...]

Not Up To Expectations

LSU played Arkansas in what the media has tried to promote as a “rivalry” game. I suspect it’s mostly because of the geographic proximity, and the fact that the game is scheduled at the end of the season when other rivalry games (Auburn – Alabama, Florida – Florida State, and so on) are played. For [...]

Ripping Vinyl Part I: Plumbing (Cables)

I spent a lot of time reading about USB turntables because I wanted to be able to “rip” vinyl to my computer to load my iPod. I finally decided that since I already own a regular turntable I should try it first. The only expense would be a few cables and some time, and it [...]

Next Year?

LSU lost to Ole Miss yesterday. LSU now has a losing record within the SEC. Despite that, they will still likely go to a bowl game but certainly not a top-tier bowl. With the win Ole Miss now has the inside track to the Cotton Bowl, should they finish out the season with a win [...]

LSU 40, Troy 31

Yes, that was the score but not the story. The story is what the score was more than half of the way through the third quarter. At that point it was 31-3, and Troy was leading handily. LSU scored the last 37 points to take the victory. I don’t think I even want to talk [...]

More Fun With iTunes

A few weeks ago I posted some statistics based on searches in my iTunes library for certain key words in the song data. In the first post I was looking for Love, Truth, and Honesty. I found lots of love, but not much honesty. Today I am going to look for some more words and [...]

LSU… So Close to an Upset…

LSU played Alabama this weekend. LSU’s defense played a great game. LSU’s offense – the weak part of the team coming into the season – did not. I’ve been saying from the beginning of the season that quarterback was important. It’s easy to see now, looking back over the years, that having an experienced but [...]

35,700 Miles and Counting

Today on the way to work I rolled over 35,700 miles on the odometer on my car. I purchased it in September of 2000. Either years later, I have clocked in an average of about 4,500 miles a year. It’s not a “garage queen” either. If you saw the car a few weeks ago (with [...]

2008-Nov 2 BCS Poll Results

I was really interested to see how the BCS poll results came out this weekend. My primary interest was to see how high Texas Tech would rise, and how far Texas would fall. In the BCS Tech is now #2 and Texas dropped to 4. I think that makes sense given how close the games [...]

LSU Has an Easy Game, SEC Shakeup, Big 12 Shoot Out

This was a great week to be a college football fan, wasn’t it? The annual “cocktail party” between Florida and Georgia was a coming-out game for the Gators. They’ve scored 40+ points in three straight SEC games, but this was clearly the most impressive. Take away a botched extra point against Ole Miss and we [...]
