LSU Rolls, USC Crushes Ohio State

LSU Logo

LSU played an outmatched UNT (North Texas) in Baton Rouge tonight, but I doubt that anyone was watching as all eyes were probably on the USC / Ohio State game. They probably were at least for the first half … after which it became apparent that Ohio State was once again unable to live up to their top-five ranking. USC went into halftime up 21-3 and it could very easily have been 28-3 but Ohio State intercepted a pass in their end-zone to stop one of the USC redzone possessions.

Ohio State lost the game 35-3. Michigan lost to Notre Dame. Illinois barely beat Louisiana Lafayette! Does that mean that Wisconson and Penn State are the only two Big 10 teams that appear to have a shot at a BCS bowl? I don’t know much about Wisconson (yet) and probably won’t bother trying to learn until they win a few more games. I have to give respect to Joe Paterno’s team, if for no other reason than the guy knows how to win. I don’t think Penn State has been tested yet (their first three games were won by scores of 66-10, 45-14, and 55-13).

Doesn’t it seem funny to be talking about Big 10 football and not even mentioning Michigan? :P

Oh, and in case anyone missed it, the final score for LSU over UNT was 41-3. The only reason UNT scored was they got an interception on the LSU 25, took it 9 yards and kicked a field goal. If not for that, the Tigers would have had a shutout.

Next week LSU travels to Auburn. Over the past few years the home team has won this game every time, and every time it has had major implications in the SEC championship race. This year it will once again be an early indicator of how far LSU can go in that race. I just hope they can break the visiting team jinx.

And why isn’t this game on the SEC on CBS? Instead we get Florida against unranked Tennessee.
