Saw This Coming… LSU Loses to UK in Triple Overtime

LSU Logo

Not too long ago I called the away game at Kentucky as one of the bigger tests of the LSU Tigers this season. It appears that not only was it a test, it was a decent mid-term exam. The Tigers didn’t exactly fail (even with the loss) but they did show they have some work to do before their final exam of the season. The pass defense got roughed up (a weakness that USC exposed a few weeks ago) and their offense dropped a couple of passes that could have changed the game. Still, I don’t think it’s the end of the world.

LSU still holds on to first palce in the SEC West and I believe will be playing for the championship. They still have to play Alabama, Auburn, and Arkansas (the “Triple-A” of SEC Football) but I think they can take those three games. If they do that, it doesn’t matter what anyone else does, LSU would still own the conference title. What else happened this week?

Vandy nearly upset Georgia, but the bulldogs pulled it out. USC took care of their northern neighbor and looks to move up in the poll. Kentucky will certainly move up. Tennessee won their game. Florida was off this week but travels to Kentucky next week. Will the wildcats upset another visiting team? If they do, Florida is done for the year, they can’t content for the conference title. It’s a must-win game for the Gators if they hope to get back to the title game.

Alabama topped Mississippi but it wasn’t easy for them. Auburn took one from Arkansas to stay up wtih LSU in the standings. Auburn, Alabama, and LSU all have one SEC loss but LSU gets the more dangerous of those teams at home in Baton Rouge, and visits Alabama on the road. In fact Auburn comes to town next.

What sort of reception will greet them? Will it be an LSU team that is fired up and ready to restake their claim to the top spot in the conference? Or will they be flat, coming off of a disappointing loss?

Stay tuned next week.
