Queue Simpsons Sound Effect: “Ha-Ha”
An early morning market update said:
Apple (AAPL) … slashed the price of its iPhone, barely two months after the much-hyped device first came on the market.
Official Press Release at Apple.com
You had to know it was coming. $600, for a phone? Yeah, it had a camera. Sure, it could play music. Oh, and it does let you read your email… and get on the Internet. But still, $600? for a phone? The same features are available in many other high-end phones that didn’t cost nearly as much.
Before you ask, no, I didn’t buy one. I do own an iPod, and I love it. I love the hardware almost as much as I hate the iTunes software. Interestingly enough they seem to have respositioned the iPhone as a new “top-end” iPod, according to one article I read. I guess that works, sort of. I would rather have a really good iPod than an expensive phone that includes minimal music features.
And already a follow-up…
Steve Jobs announced today that existing iPhone customers can get a $100 “credit” on their account. Not a refund. Not a rebate. A credit. Hm.
Guess it’s better than nothing.
