Good opening but questions to answer…

LSU opened their season with an unusual Thursday night game last night. They made the short trip to Mississippi State’s home turf. When I attended LSU the bulldogs were a good opponent. Lately they have not been; LSU has owned the series for the past several years. One article I read said the Tigers had outscored the Bulldogs by 340-81 since 2000. Three of those games have been shutouts, as was the one last night.

Areas of concern: the LSU offense only managed one score without help. The rest of their points came from turnovers. MSU’s quarterback tied a record with six interceptions. I didn’t watch the game, so it’s hard to know how many of those were bad throws versus good defense, and apparently it was raining during the game as well.

The next test for the Tigers will be more substantial: Virginia Tech comes to Baton Rouge to play. Wonder if they’ve been there before? What a surprise they are in for if not. I remember being in that stadium, and it can literally rock.

I hope it will at least be a better indication of whether LSU will do something with their current #2 position in the national poll.
