Column Locked! Yes, it happened to me…
Today I left the office, normal day, for a Friday. I got out to my car, like I’ve done many other times. Popped the hatch, unlatched the top, and stored it in the back. Like I’ve done many other times. Put the key in the ignition, like I’ve done so many other times.
Pull Key and Wait 10 Seconds.
Service Column Lock.
Crap.
Yes, after over 5 years of ownership, it finally happened. Two hours later I’m watching my car being loaded onto a flatbed and hauled off to the dealer. A dealer, I might add, that has told me that there’s “no guarantee” that it’s actually a column lock issue, and that I might have to pay for a repair.
Yeah, right.
A little searching on the web and I found GM Tech Bulletin #04006C which states that all column lock systems within the US (but not Canada for some reason) are to be removed. I printed out the bulletin and will happily discuss it with my service advisor tomorrow.
That is, if they give me any grief. 
Hopefully they’ll do the right thing and perform the service as required.
